Open to BHS members, the AGM will be taking place this year at London Zoo from 1.00pm to 5.00pm. The AGM provides an excellent venue for BHS members to meet and socialise - and with three renowned speakers, the afternoon promises to be an exciting one!   As an addition to the AGM, there are two positions where members will be standing for continuation in their posts. These positions are Herpetological Journal Scientific Editor, currently held by Dr. Wolfgang Wuster, and Ordinary Member, currently held by Mr. John Pickett.   BHS Photo Competition - 29th March 2008

With some great prizes for the lucky winners, the BHS invites all BHS members to participate in this year's photo competition. The competition will take place at the 61st AGM. Photographs must be taken personally by a BHS member and can be funny, serious or sentimental - just so long as herpetology is involved. Please either send entries by post to the Secretary or deliver them in person at the AGM. Photographs must be prints only, up to A4 for size, and have the name clearly written on the back. Entries are limited to three photos per member and are non-returnable unless personally collected. Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place will be awarded and all winning entries will be published in The NatterJack. Happy snapping!

ARG UK Herpetofauna Workers' Meeting 2008

9 - 10 February 2008: The herp workers’ meeting provides an excellent opportunity to not only learn about herpetology and really play an active role in herp conservation and projects in the UK, but to also meet like-minded individuals involved in the field. Spanning over two days, the meeting has a large number of speakers presenting on a wide variety of topics including ‘emergence of amphibian chytridiomycosis in the UK’; ‘colonisation of newly created small ponds by great crested newts’ and ‘changes in European protected species legislation’. Participants will also have the opportunity to take part in three workshop / training sessions of their choice. This is a meeting not to be missed. Download a registration form here and the programme here.

  Western Ghats Herpetological Expedition

The Western Ghats run along almost the entire stretch of the Western Coast of Peninsular India. These ancient mountains are a haven of global biodiversity with an extraordinary level of endemicity. The herpetofauna in the region is truly spectacular with species ranging from rare thumbnail sized tree frogs to King Cobras & fresh water crocodiles. Like many parts of the tropics, the forests come alive during the rains and the monsoons in the Western Ghats are no exception. We will be searching for snakes during this peak season and we will be accompanied by expert snake trackers – The Irula tribe as well as some of the most reputable herpetologists in India – Romulus Whitaker & Gerry Martin.
