January 20th 2008 - New website goes live

The BHS website has undergone a complete redesign for the New Year. As well as changing the appearance of the site, we have also extended the contents significantly. The member's section now contains back issues of the Herpetological Bulletin ( going back to Spring 2005), as well as PDFs of each individual article for all editions from Spring 2006, as well as the complete set of NatterJack editions for 2006 and 2007.

We've also added a dedicated section to the BHS's involvement in global herpetological action. Currently this page discribes our involvement in the Mallorcan Midwife Toad Recovery Programme, alongside a number of other organisations including the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust. The Global Herp Action page will soon be extended to include many more of the Society's global activities.

If you have any questions, comments or requests, please feel free to email webmaster@thebhs.org.

Come back soon!

  Western Ghats Herpetological Expedition
The Western Ghats run along almost the entire stretch of the Western Coast of Peninsular India. These ancient mountains are a haven of global biodiversity with an extraordinary level of endemicity. The herpetofauna in the region is truly spectacular with species ranging from rare thumbnail sized tree frogs to King Cobras & fresh water crocodiles. Like many parts of the tropics, the forests come alive during the rains and the monsoons in the Western Ghats are no exception. We will be searching for snakes during this peak season and we will be accompanied by expert snake trackers – The Irula tribe as well as some of the most reputable herpetologists in India – Romulus Whitaker & Gerry Martin.
